Egypt Air JFK Departure Terminal

Egypt Air operates 6–7 weekly flights on flight MS986 from Terminal 1 at JFK to Cairo International Airport (CAI). This route is the only direct airline service from the Egypt Air Terminal connecting the United States to Egypt’s capital.

Check-in: Egypt Air opens check-in three hours before departure. The Egypt Air check-in counter is located in the main departure hall on Level 3 of Terminal 1. Passengers who completed the online check-in must visit the Egypt Air check-in counter at JFK for document verification, boarding pass issuance, and baggage tagging.

Baggage: The baggage drop counter sits next to the check-in counter on level 3. EgyptAir closes baggage acceptance earlier than the boarding gate cutoff. Passengers must check in their baggage at least 60 minutes before departure.

Security screening: All Egypt Air passengers go through standard TSA security screening. Eligible travelers can use the TSA PreCheck at JFK Terminal 1. Passengers using the standard security screening should expect average wait times of 28-35 minutes.

Boarding gate: After clearing security, Egypt Air passengers enter the airside departure area where the boarding gates, shops, and restaurants are located. Egypt Air boards from Gates 1 through 11. The boarding gate appears on the boarding pass, and passengers can also confirm it on airport display screens or at the check-in counters.

Pro-tip: Arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure to allow enough time for check-in,  security screening, and boarding.

Immigration: US Immigration control is located on Level 1  on the arrival level before baggage claim. Passengers pass through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), where officers check passports, visas, or ESTA approvals, and other entry documents. 

Baggage Claim: The baggage claim area at the EgyptAir JFK terminal is located on Level 1. Passengers should check the arrival display monitors to find the correct baggage carousel for their flight. 

U.S. Customs: After collecting their bags, passengers proceed to the U.S. Customs inspection area, where an officer may ask questions about the purpose of travel and declared items. After clearing customs, passengers enter the public arrivals hall at JFK Terminal 1.

Arriving passengers at Terminal 1 proceed through immigration, baggage claim, and U.S. customs on Level 1, which is the lower arrival level. 

Egypt Air plans to shift its operation to the new Terminal One later this year. Until then, the airline continues to handle all arrivals and departures from the existing Terminal 1.
